I was sitting at work looking at some perspex and thought lets make a tank(wife dose not want a tank in the house no room).
So I started it 40cm x 40cm x 40cm. Thought ill do a back filter so i could hide all the stuff.

These are the pics i sent to the wife what do you think. She said were you going to put it. The only place it can go is the fire place So that's were it went.

So now i need a light got the Chihiros A series which i like but going to need some help not to sure what to set it on thinking 3 / 4?
Going to do co2 still waiting for the regulator to turn up.
Substrate is Tetra Active Substrate and Seachem Flourite Dark mixed did not have enough Seachem Flourite.
So this is the tank at the moment. What do you all think first time attempting a aquascape like this.

Hello, I was just wondering Where you managed to get a 40cm chihiros from? I couldn't seem to find any uk sellers anywhere!

That's where mine went as well! Fireplace Aquarium | Planted freshwater aquarium blog and resource Yours is a very much neater setup than mine - I like the surround you've put around it, I may do similar now that you've provided the inspiration. ;) Do you have a register plate or some other way the chimney is closed off? I do find that when it rains heavily there can be small bits of debris from the chimney that drop onto the tank. Mine is a fully covered top so I just wipe those off but worth thinking about with an open-topped setup.

Thank you. Painting it out matt black has made a big difference also put 18mm ply on the floor to make it smooth and the same black paint. I've fixed 3mm ply over the hole so no bits can fall down. We used to have a heater in their when I took it out saw all the bits on top of it knew I had to block of the hole.

And so it begins

2 hours later looks like this

Co2 regulator still not here. Hope it turns up soon. Happy with the outcome so far. Dosing tropical specialised nutrition 1 squirt every 2 days. Light going to be on for 6 hours 1 down from top.
O yes plants are lilaeopsis brasiliensis, monte cario, littorella uniflora. Running tank at 23 deg C.

Looking great, love a good DIY tank. Should look lush once the plants get going
Thank you, hope so.
Not to sure what's happening with the regulator. Was meant to be delivered yesterday but it did not. Made a diy co2 this morning to get things going while waiting for the regulator to ture up.
