Hello All.
Just want to sort out my confusion and surprise about new arrivals in my tank.
I have had a new layout running since Early December. Since set up, I added to my current stock with 4 Cherry shrimp and 3 Ottos.
One of the Cherry Shrimp appeared to be a female carrying eggs, which was a potential bonus.
Existing stock includes 4 Cardinals, 4 Amano Shrimp and 2 Bamboo shrimp.
So, onto my question for you clever people.
Whilst doing a routine water change and clean up I noticed a number of tiny shrimp doing their bit. 4 at best count so far. Initially I thought they must be the offspring from the Cherry as she no longer appears to be carrying but...
They appear to be a bit big for very young shrimp, and crucially they are not red!
I then jumped to a conclusion that they may be either Amano or Bamboo babies.
However on doing a bit of googling, it appears that Amano and Bamboos are difficult to breed. One website used the term 'near impossible' to breed.
There is much reference to them only breeding in Brackish water, and would be unlikely to survive if fish and other shrimp are present.
I should make it clear that I am far from a competent fish keeper, or aquascaper. I have a relatively standard set up, with C02 injection, Biomaster filtration, Fluval Plant lighting in a 64 litre set up.
Please can anybody ID these babies. Sorry if the images are not the best, but the buggers are tiny. At a guess 6-8mm at the moment.
Anybody had success with either Amano or Bamboo shrimp breeding with no intervention, or specialised care or conditions.
Am I being stupid, and Cherry shrimp start off this colour, then turn Red.
Any help is great. They all seem happy and have not been bothered by any of the fish, other shrimp or the snails.
First image is general tank layout, second and third show 2 of the babies on very young Crypt Parva.
