i dont think its wise, have heard before that when you have it upright your using the gas off the top which is why they are never totally full. put it on its side and its the liquid gas thats coming out. maybe complete BS though as I heard it off someone else.

Fire Extinguishers should definately not be stored on their sides. They are a higher pressure than standard CO2 bottles, and I believe something to do with the way the gas is delivered from the cylinder means it's actually quite dangerous to do so.

It'll blow the safety valve if stored and used on it's side, the pressure builds up in the wrong place and BAM you've got a mess no your hands.

thanks all

that leaves me a bit stumped

i don't suppose there is a 15" high bottle i can use,
soda stream perhaps?

There not cheap cheap but arnt the JBL ones small for say a 500g

cheers

i think thats the way this may go

i may just email jbl
I have been trying to find the dimensions of the bottle
but had no luck on the web

We have 2kg extinguishers in work and they are about 18"high
perhaps a 1kg extinguisher may do the job but again i have had
trouble finding dimensions for this also

If it is of any consequence I am now doing my water change and I have got close to the bottle and measured accuratly. It is 17.25" 44cm including the stand and cage on the top, which could possibly be removed to give an extra 1/4" less.

Hope that helps.

thanks all

hoskin, pardon my ignorance but do the double dials
sit higher that tha or are they flush with the cage

there is a 350g bottle out there
but i was hoping to get a kit from aquaristic
and they all come with 500g bottles

Regards and thanks

ive known the 500 g jbl bottles to differ in length as some have flatter bottoms than others! Some fit in my cabinet others do not! when it didnt fit I laid it down :? Im guessing this was a bad move? never had any trouble though? I moved over to 2kg which now stands outside the cab.
