Can you trim Vallis?

Not in my experience pal. Trimming the tops off just makes them go brown and die off. Just trim them off at the substrate and let them grow back.

Agreed, if you trim them they will survive for a little but then start melting after a few days and then you trim what's melting and then it melts some more until there is nothing left to trim, so best removed at the base, or get shorter varieties to suit your tank size.

you need to trim as close as to the substrate/gravel. if you trim the tip, the whole leaf will melt.
