Cheap Soloenoid

Hi all
I've been doing a bit of thinking (don't laugh - it's not funny :D), and I came the the conclusion that the solenoid I use on my welder will do the same job on my co2 system. So I tried it and it did. Welding solenoids seem to work out cheaper than solenoids designed specifically for aquarium. So, I got mine here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MIG-TIG-welders-A ... 4149958c95. The seller says he's out of 240V models, but I managed to get one after messaging him.

Looks interesting, have you received it yet and tried it out, would be good to see how hot the unit gets and the life of the unit. I was forever burning out the cheap Chinese solenoids.

Hi, yes, I've got it working on the tank now because my old one was sticking and was a sealed unit. It dosen't get too hot - about the same as the one I was using on my tanks before, which I found lasted about 13months (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CO2-magnetic-valv ... 20adf09d1f). I've no idea what the life expectancy of this model will be but the one I use on my welder has been going strong for about 19 months, although obviously it isn't being used daily.

Hi Sam

Yup, still going strong! He's got 2 more 240V models on his website also.
