Please can you tell me what the equivalent led lighting would be needed to match 78watts of fluorescent t5 lighting.thank you.

And when lighting need is given in W/litre, is that based on T5 or LED lighting?
Divide by 3.785
10.3-13.7 w/ litre for led
15.4- 20.5 for t5
Based on being equiv to your orig assumption of 78 watts.

Keep in mind high/ low light estimates are based on "average" dimension tanks.

Say you want old school 40 watts/Litre you want 26.7 watts/L of led.

To be honest current quality diodes can move the watt equivalency to 1:2 or less
20:10:5 / liter based on chart above.

As I understand the history originally it was based on T12 technology.
I'm sure it has been corrected for t8/5 (t8/t5 efficiency ie lumens/watt is almost equal.
Just a matter of more watts per sq inch so to speak.)

It's complicated...
