Hi,

Had a family of dwarf corys all doing well and very open, but then found them being very shy, some smaller ones swimming strangely and at least 2 dead ones found.
All water parameter good including 0 ammonia.

The only thing we could think of that could have affected them was a few days earlier we had heavily cut back one of our Crypts.

Looking around the web seem there is some comments that when adding Crypts or them melting away , they can cuase problems for shrimps due to suspected high levels of Oxalis acid being released by the Crypts

Anyone know if this is so and could account for the dwarf corys ( habrosus) dying ?

Never experienced such a situation, but it is a known thing that all Araceae contain more or less fytotoxins. Dieffenbachia is rightfully considered dangerous in households with kids.

I think its unlikely to be the plants. Crypt wendtii is a super common plant, so if this had a high risk of happening, the amount of reports should be substantial.
You mention ammonia 0, what about nitrite?
Even if tests report clear, I would still be looking at other possible causes than the plants.
Was anything else done to the tank recently?

Thanks, all water parameters are good and nothing changed in the well established tank for a couple of months since the introduction of some more dwarf corys, other than cutting back some plants , mainly the Crypts just a day or two before things took a down turn.
No signs of any visible disease on them, the noticable thing was some were swimming in a very meandering way rather than their usual busy manner and that they all now seem very shy compared to normal.
