In order to get rid of the cyanobacteria or BGA or whatever its called. I know that you have to do a blackout, but for how long? and is there anything else i should be doing? Do i stil feed the fish etc..

I also have diatoms all over the sand, and it is not very pleasant as the sand is (snow) white. Can i do a blackout to get rid of this? And also I've heard about the overdosing flourish excel method, should i do this also?

Help appreciated

Do a huge water change, add a dose of kno3 and cover the tank for 3 days, dosing with all the lights out don't feed the fish. When you remove the sheets do a second massive water change as start dosing straight away.
