So now that the Dragon Goby/Violet Goby has well and truly settled in.
He has made his home behind the Aquadecor style background in the reat left side of the tank.
And I know when he is digging etc, as a plume of dirt rises into the water column.
The other fish love this, as they swim into it looking for critters etc that have been kicked up.
Now the Gravel bed for the UGF is about 5 Inches deep. And made up of many layers of differing sands, gravel grades and bio media.
He has dug out 3 tunnels into and under the foreground carpet matt. with a few hillocks of gravel etc.
The Vampires love the aftermath of this once the mulm settles onto all the crevices of the background aswell, as they can be seen sweeping the mulm into their mouths and eating what they want.

I would like to add a sponge filter to the Void behind the background, but want something slime line. That wont take up alot of space.
Save me making one myself from the my stash, is there any recommendations apart from the bog standard black stick on ones etc.
There is only a 3inch gap for me to squeeze my hand behind and manoeuvre the sponge into place etc.
Plus the sponge will be beneficial for the cherries to graze oe.

TIA

I have a tiny tank that is running without a filter atm. If I have to add one it will be the Aquael Pat filter. It is tiny and uses a powerhead rather than a noisy air pump. There is a mod on Youtube to add a second sponge if necessary

Yeah been looking at the Pat Mini, used to use them in the shrimp tanks @ Coalville Aquatics.

If I do get one I’ll change sponge out for something finer. It looks quite coarse. There are a frw places offering alternative sponges that look more suitable for baby CRS

Hi @Gill

I was only thinking today that I hadn't seen you on UKAPS for a while. But, perhaps I just haven't been very observant! Anyway, onto your Goby. Do you have any piccies - stills or video? They're lovely fish and I have yet to keep them.

If your open to other options Gill, could you fit a hang on the back filter and have the pipe going down to where the crud is disturbed. If you fill it full of floss it wouldn't be such a pain to clean as a sponge filter. When we kept garden eels, we found floss was the best thing to keep the water clear as you didn't disturb the muck as much when pulling out the filter, sponges seemed to put back half of what they had caught when you lifted them out.

Yeah not been active on here much, as no planted tanks left.
Took down all the Pico Tanks as well, to make way for my ever growing Harry Potter memorabilia collection. You don't want to know the kind of damage my cards take in the various shops in London, when I visit the Studio and Noble and House of Spells etc.
And been having lots of mini breaks away thanks to Groupon/Wowcher etc.

Seconding the request for images of the goby, I love a fish with personality
I stupidly did not take any pix of it when i got it, and no cant get a decent view as he has found the spots he likes. And only ever see his tail swishing about.

Sadly this tanks design has no space for a HOB to be added, as they are my Go To filters to use. It would mean having to remove a section along the back of the tank.

I like the mini pat too - you can get extended tubes and foam blocks for them here: Filtration | Hamburg Matten Filter | Poret Polyether Foam Media they also do pipes and flat sheets that might work for your setup too.

Yes Envobee is a fave of mine, and have all their HMF designs saved in my baskets.

Just managed to grab a few pix whole making dinner. And he was out of his burrow sifting.

Well he stayed out and ventured into the light.
More with his face. You can just about make out its eyes.
And yes, a face only a mother could love.

This is its main entrance/exit out of the background.
Its meant to be for a prefilter, but removed it for the Goby to use. And the Vampire Shrimp use it as-well when they want to leave the back of the tank.

Lucky that you're his mother then! 😂

Fabulous photos of an even more fabulous fish. No wonder you couldn't resist him at the fish shop 😂 unconventional, yet striking, like a fashion model!

Yeah, been wanting one for years, and grabbed him knowing I could make a quiet area away from the main tank.

Got a face like thunder haha.

Looks very healthy and plump. Will it take tablets and pellets or is it frozen and live only for these?
yeah always eating while digging/burrowing.
No, its not able to eat anything larger than a brine shrimp. So it can take some flake/frozen brine shrimp from the substrate etc. And though it gets most of its food while digging etc.
So its Shrimp safe apart from maybe very small ones that it may suck in accidentally. It cant really see much so the eyes are pretty useless.
