Does it need to be soaked?

Morning all
I’ve just purchased a piece of driftwood which I’ve put it in to a bucket of water to soak it so it doesn’t float but it sinks to the bottom anyway. Do I take it that it won’t need to be emerged in water prior to setting up my second tank and that it won’t suddenly start to float?

Looks like Mopani wood....which is very dense in structure!
Best leave it in the bucket...to remove tannins.....plus you may experience white bacteria fugus growth!
So change the water every few days and brush off any white growth on the wood.....give it a good rinse!!

Got a new bucket today as i didn't want to risk one of the buckets in the garage that we had, it's now in soaking, i completely forgot about the tannins. Thanks for the advice
