I'm after abit more light for plants growth. Currently I'm running a fluval 2.o and a juwel led bar which gives me as a guesstimate of around 40-45 par substrate level. Does anyone have any experience with the cheapo eBay LEDs as a boost?
Anyting cheaper than Chihiros or Finnex is generally just LED suitable for “viewing fish”, and not designed for plant growth
If water column height is greater than 35-40cm, look for 1watt high intensity LEDs (which are now no longer “cheap as chips”)
If you look at some of DIY LED builds (on ukaps) there are good suggestions of non-aquarium (usually not rated for water resistance etc) LED’s
All my LEDs are purchased from Ebay. I have used them for over 3 years, and not a single one has failed. In addition to strip LEDs I placed on tank top, I tied submersible LEDs with fish line on the central brace, front and side rims to increase coverage.
