Hi guys

Got this set up again but gargling a lot with lots of bubbles. Shook it a good while but nothing.

Running some watered thin bleach threw to rinse built up germs etc before using Prime and letting air dry and use again.

Question is do the bubbles suggest a leak do you think and can you take the front indicator off? I’ve tried but no joy and nothing online I could find of how to get it off.

Shaking relieves bubbles a bit but they soon return and there sure is a lot of them to be simply microbubbles I think you’d agree? Thanks!

These filters are really designed to be below the water source - what happens when you put the bucket above the “minimum head height”
(listed in the manual somewhere, used to be on the box as well)
 
That does look like a lot of bubbles. It’s easy to get air pockets in these filters when you set them up and it can take a bit of shaking the canister to get them out. I would turn it off, remove the lid and ensure the canister is full of water before replacing the lid and trying again. Different filter I know but this technique is good practice:



As said though the filter is supposed to be below the source.
 
Thanks both will take all seals out and clean and use silicone spray and put back and then look into that - thank you.

Surely even level it shouldn’t be dragging that kind of air in though right? I mean where’s that coming from...

I tipped the whole thing and drips did come out the edges of the top lid - could be a seal leak?

The other thing is the seal in the middle clip in section is dragging air out... but I can’t get into it as I can’t see how that comes off haha.

Lifting the tub did already seem to make it quieter oddly enough. Still a bit confused where the air is coming from though so will take seals out and coat and reapply.

Call and speak with an Eheim tech support pump specialist for an explanation - it is logical, I just don’t have the why (despite having observed this effect with other (non aquarium) pumps)

Fair enough thanks alto haha. Couldn’t see where the air was coming from but like I said if the filter is old then it makes more sense too.

Do you know if it’s worth using the two inlets or can I just use one and join them together? Most of the new ones only have one inlet I see?

Makes sense for circulation but more cleaning and clutter intank.

Which model
- some are designed with the 2 inlets
I’d keep both inlets, better flow :)

If it’s well used, I’d pick up replacement O-rings as they do deteriorate over time/use (especially if sat dry)

If you join, then use a suitably designed Y , note the single outlet should have a larger bore (check with Eheim) as you don’t want to put “pull” pressure on the pump

Sorry bud missed this!

It’s the 2080 I believe! I agree that duel intakes would be a good choice just the cleaning but it’s not a problem.

Would best position be as normal do you think just two intakes or space them out? Odd there’s nothing online about layouts for this.

I only have a 60p so do you think 2080 is overkill for that? I have a slightly smaller non Eheim filter too but it’s to replace my sump. I have a 90p in the pipeline but if this filter wouldn’t be a huge overkill I’d be happy with it on the 60p.

I’m using a 7l prefilter regardless with sponge in to keep things cleaner for longer without having to go into the main boy.

I’ll update my thread with this soon. Thanks for your help.

I’ve just powered up a Tetra EX400 that I’ve had in the loft for a few years and it’s doing the same thing. It’s definitely sucking in air from somewhere. I’ve checked the seals and they all look ok. I’m going to raise the temporary reservoir when I get a minute and try again.

Oh wow ok. Even when it’s lowered down like I did? Seals probably need a good clean too I’ve still got to do all mine.

I will check, clean and lubricate the seals but I’m thinking about getting an Eheim Classic. Much less to go wrong. I can keep the Tetra as a backup if I can stop it sucking air!
 
Ok I’ve raised the reservoir by a couple of feet and it’s working ok. I’d still like to know where it was sucking in the air but at least it’s working.
