Hi Members
Although I don't do many live full journals, I do still like to grow plants...be it submerged or emersed!
So here is a little experimental emersed project I did today....hope you like it!
Items used
1 Large Pop Corn Container from the Cinema.
Multi Purpose compost.
Canna Coco Coir Natural.
Empathy Bulb Starter with Rootgrow... Mycorrhizal Fungi
Cryptocoryne undulates Red.
Cryptocoryne sp balansae.
Firstly I've heard good reports about Canna Coco Coir...and its properties for retaining water, also has a good air exchange ...so I thought I would give it a bash.....at growing some excess Cryptocoryne sp!
So onto the Mini project!
1)
Drill holes on the sides and bottom of one food container.
This is for good Oxygen exchange and for draining excess water!
I put the other container inside to give the tub some strength when drilling
2)
Add some pebbles to cover the base and the side holes.
3)
Mix 3 Parts Canna Coco Coir to 1 Part Multi Purpose compost, plus 3 Serving spoons of Mixed Grit/JBL Manado.
4)
Cover the Pebbles with the Media.
5)
Make holes to accommodate the Crypt Plantlets....add a pinch of Empathy Bulb Starter with Rootgrow to each hole.
6)
Plant the Cryptocoryne's
7)
Place the 2nd food container upside down into the Pop Corn Container.
8)
Placed the prepared Plant container on top of the one inside the Pop Corn Container.
9)
Spray and fill the container with water to the level of the holes on the side of the planted container!
Replace the lid
That's it....when the Crypts start to stand upright I will lower the container down to a lower level!
One thing I didn't have was Cable ties to make a handle for the Crypt container ......I will do that another day.
Its a tad tight to get the fingers in there to remove the bucket for maintenance!
Maintenance
Change the water once a week!
Leave the lid off occasionally and Mist the leaves!
May add Osmocote although there is fertilizer in the compost!
Cheers
