Finally got round to actually tackling my Flexi mini Scape set, I think these are now discontinued, and mine has some small scratches, but I figured it was now or never!

I'll be using a co2 reactor I got from AliExpress (can provide details for anyone interested).

I've planted up with staurogyne repens, pogostemon helferi, heteranthera, and some myriophyllum Guyana (probably some misspellings in there).

The limited hardscape will get swallowed up almost immediately I imagine, but not overly fussed.

New nano diffuser from co2 supermarket, fits perfectly and quality is great, £5.99 too, can't beat it.

Plants are beginning to look a little more settled, the myriophyllum and heteranthera are already growing which shouldn't be surprising.

Approximating 1 bp per 2 seconds, or 0.5bps to be precise.

Once the plants are established I'll add a bunch of red neo's I reckon.

Coming along well!

The AliExpress DIY co2 is still going at 1 bubble every 2 seconds, 24hrs a day, thoroughly impressed with this unit given it was £42!

Added some yellow neo's recently, some are saddled so not sure if they'll be berried soon or not.

I want to add Christmas or weeping moss to the wood, I should have done this at the start but c'est la vie.

I'm already also seeing everything wrong with this scape, most noticeably the quadrangular positioning, just ruins the immersion.

May have to rethink some things!

Added some floating pistia or equivalent, not sure of exact floating type, to draw some nutrients out of the water and add a really grown in feel. It's now no longer an aquascape as such, but a hectic jungle I guess 😂

Hi all,

Yes Pistia stratiotes (Nile Cabbage). It has great roots.

Barely grown in. It has a way <"to go yet">.

This is one of mine, but it has got a lot thicker since the photo, mainly because the Ceratopteris has burst into life after a few years of relative sulking.

Had a bit of a set back on this tank, tonnes of green hair algae!

I think the cause was a combination of the incredibly overpowered Flexi mini led on this size of tank, along with likely fluctuating co2 levels.

I've managed to eliminate the algae visibly via use of excel and blackout periods, I also removed the background plants as these were affected badly.

I've since planted some bacopa C. in the last couple of days, however not sure I'll stick with them, we'll see.

I'm now using an aqua one led that is less powerful and situated higher, with a photoperiod of approximately 6 hours.

I'm now swithering on whether to add the co2 again, if so I intend to use it at very low levels, i.e. 1 bubble every 3 or so seconds if that, but would appreciate thoughts on this, and whether it may cause algae issues again. It's a DIY bottle I use, that tends to last 1 month or so, with minor fluctuations as the pressure decreases.

Good news is, lots of healthy shrimplets!

Not much has changed on this, I added some hemianthus Micranthemoides a couple of days ago, it's starting to settle in so fingers crossed it'll provide a nice backdrop and hide the dennerle hob/canister 🙈

Tank is a bit like a science experiment just now as I'm hatching some medaka fry and isolating lower grade shrimp, but hopefully will have a separate set-up for this soon.

Have also attached some pics of my spec v with PBS!

Fast growth on the Micranthemoides, interestingly, I'm only bubbling in co2 at a rate of 1 bubble every 5 seconds or so, I haven't checked the drop checker but I doubt it would even move it from blue.

It's keeping algae at bay though and things healthy, so if I can save more co2 then fine by me.

In need of another trim, not sure whether to keep this scape going or change things up! It's hard to be content when things seems to be at the finish!

Added my small group of gold medaka (x5) to the party, already spotted them laying eggs, however they'll be likely munching on shrimplets, so possibly not a long term arrangement!

I think the best way to breed medaka is to add parents to a tank, leave for 1-2 weeks then remove them entirely. I really resent the price medaka sell for over here, when they're 30p a fish in Japan.

I'd like to make them more accessible here in the UK, ideally I'll be able to share fry with other members on here and help the cause!

Think this tank has run its course! Time to empty and store until the next flash of inspiration 😂

Hehe it was a fun read while it lasted though! :) Nice little tank.
Micranthemoides is tedious to maintain, it keeps growing so fast. Even with low CO2 levels.
Yeah, it certainly is; I wouldn't have liked to see it with higher co2 etc in this tank 😵

Didn't realise how long the last check in was on this!

Re-scaped to below, running a 12 hour light period after reading Christel Kasselmann's info, with a lot of floating plants for shade!
