Filter floss in a sump?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to increase the flow through my sump a bit, so am considering removing the filter floss currently used as the bottom layer of the mechanical filtration. I put it in for fun really; not sure if it's necessary? Right now the water level before the sponges gradually rises during the week, sometimes overflowing into the post-sponge areas before I do a water change.

Anyone have a view? There's quite a bit of mechanical filtration to be done - heavy planting and fairly high stocking with nano fish

Thanks
Jack

If that's the case your floss is getting clogged very soon. I use floss in my sump and replace it fith fresh floss every 2 weeks or so. My sponges I don't really know but I have a seperate chamber for each step so it's easy to keep track of which ones are clogged.
Good tip - thanks. I'll put in some extra sponge and see if that helps
