Fluval 305 External Filter

Hello,

I have a Fluval 305 canister filter with an output of 1000 L/h. I was wondering if I could use this for my 38L high tech planted tank or will this be an overkill...i mean can I regulate the flow? by shutting off the inflow/outflow?

Yes its overkill, but yes you could use it and reduce flow using shut off valve.

I'm pretty sure you can adjust the flow on the 305 but even at its lowest setting it might still be too much for a 38l tank.

I have a 305 on one of my tanks, you can slow it down to a trickle if you wish.

Will this not cause any problems to the filter? I mean exert force since I will decrease flow and increase the pressure?

I would just use a spraybar, and if the flow seems to much, drill more holes.
