Evening all, I'm currently running 2 external filters on my Rio180,a Fluval 405 And an Eheim 2213.
The Fluval has 4 compartments in it and I'm running what was in it when I got it secondhand. I needed to clean it out and found that it was running the following:
Lowest level; 2carbon bags
Next up ; 2 ammonia bags
Top 2; loose Biomax
My question is this; does this all sound ok or does it need changing around, I was thinking that the Carbon might be affecting the ferts dosing and is there any need for the ammonia removal pads. I keep hearing about purigen and how it makes the water gin clear. What is this and how does it work. Does it go in the filter if so what level basket
Sorry for all the questions
My Rio's been running for 9 weeks now and everything seems ok apart from cloudy ish looking water so am I worrying over nothing.

Cheers
Martin

Hi Martin, I'd remove the ammonia pads, the carbon will have just become an effective form of bio media now, I'd drop the bio rings down to where the ammonia pads were then put purigen in the top with some filter floss under it or just use the filter floss. Purigen binds organics etc to it and gives you crystal clear water. Lots of people on here use it

Thanks Alistair. Is the purigen in a bag or loose granule and how often do you change it
