Glass intakes killing shrimp

Have been thinking about the same thing as I was planning on glass pipes on a tank I'm about to set up. Was thinking about sticking one of these

on the bottom of the inlet. Kind of defeats the purpose of beautiful glass pipes, I know, but thought if it only covered the inlet holes and there were plants in front of it ...

When I had my lillys running I'd allways find a shrimp stuck to it when I got home from work.

Having a sponge defeats the object of having glass, if you really want to stop shrimp massacre you would treat them to a HMfilter (think that's the name) there THE filter for shrimp tanks.....thank or the dennerle corner filter if you have a nano.

I have not encountered that problem. Maybe the key is to have the inlet 10-15cm from the bottom?

I know nothing of the subject, but with the shrimp filter caps, wouldn't that stop any solid matter getting filtered by the pump? Wouldn't it just act as "filter media" and keep all the gunk in the tank?

Have one in my main tank and it does tend to clog up pretty fast. Have to give it a little rub with filter on every few days to break down larger stuff.
