I think this is algae?

Hi, just chucked some oak into my tank after boiling. Still has not sank so cannot aquascape the tank yet.

I know there is something similar to this and think it is bacteria but dont remember it being exactly the same. Is this bacteria or algae, or something else?

I reckon that will be fungi rather than bacteria but could really be either. Not something I would worry about, it should eventually disappear of it's own accord once it exhausts the nutrients that are immediately available to it. Shrimp and probably some fish would eat this.

Okay cheers, thats what I thought but havent set up a new aquarium in so long I have kind of forgotten a lot of the basics and stuff.

I'll third that - it's a fungus. Had a piece of wood with the same. Went in a week.
