Hiya just bought my first external filter from ebay. It is a Eheim 2222 and if for my 60l Iwagumi, the filter has come with some media that looks very clean so I intend to boil it and then reuse it.
The filter has two trays, each tray if filled with Bio rings and then topped with a sponge pad of medium density ( bumpy, looks like egg cartons). At the very bottom of the filter there are plastic bio balls.
My question is, is this sufficient filtration for my setup?
I have always been used to using active carbon in my internal filter tank, but as this is my first venture in to planted aquaria I am intrigued to find out what people use, would it not keep the water clearer using carbon? Other things I have to hand are some Seachem SeaGel (Blend of MatrixCarbon & PhosGuard), and I also have some Seachem Matrix. Would ether of these be beneficial to the aquarium?
