i have seen a very cheap over tank liminaire. it has 2x250w halides. it will fit a 4ft tank. my tank is about 60USG. would this be overkill!!? i think it will work out at like 7wpg or something. i can find out if if i could run one light on its own but i doubt it. is it worth it?

yes it is overkill, unless you can provide sufficient CO2, nutrients & turnover which i doubt you can.

Why would you want to go above 2.5WPG? Is it T12

2 x 54w HO T5 should be plenty for most plants in that size tank.
