Little black balls

Was just staring at my tank waiting for stuff to grow and noticed these little black balls on a limb of my redmoor close to the substrate. At first i thought it was just soil but it's stuck on there and quite a lot on the underside in the shadows on the picture.

The fact that it's mostly in the shadows makes me think it's not any type of algae.

Not tried removing yet. Tank inhabitants are amano shrimp, neon tetras and a male guppy.

Looks like the beginning of black beard algae?

Hi Dave,
I've had these that you described on my Bonsai driftwood, mine haven't progressed either so I took the driftwood out and used boiled water along with a toothbrush and they came off really easy. I don't think it's any type of Algae for sure. Hope this helps.
Simon.

If in doubt, dose some liquid carbon on it. If it is bba it should disappear a few days later.
