I recently got a new fx5 to replace my 405, so i transferd all the media from the 405 into the fx, so my question is, how long would it take for the 6 new pads to start there own bacteria colony?

cheers billy boy

It should build up over a good 2 - 4 weeks, depending on fish load really. I wouldn't add any additional fish for a few weeks, then add slowly after that over another 2 - 4 weeks. Should be relatively safe doing this I think.

Of course, you have a similar amount of bacteria as you had in your 405 seeing as you transfered all the bio media and sponges, so your current stocking should be OK from the start.
