Hi all,

Whilst doing a water change today, this came out of the undergrowth:

What do you think? Is it a lost Amano shrimp, or is it a discarded shell?
My instinct hopes it’s a shell, as there’s no soft bits inside and no carapace. Which means that my shrimp are doing well and growing.
I have no other inhabitants in the tank, so didn’t think the other shrimp would scavenge, but maybe I’m wrong?
What do you think?

Cheers,
Martin

Moult

Other shrimp sometimes scavenge, sometimes don’t
Dead shrimp look just like cooked shrimp, pink and solid, body softens within a couple days and actually disappears more quickly than a moult

Amano are great shrimp - I've got some larvae maturing right now.

They are ridiculously hardy shrimp and excellent clean up crew!

You'll undoubtedly have questions within a week about the eggs the females will visibly be seen carrying... hanky panky usually always follows a moult.

Are you keeping the larvae in brackish water?

Amanos are bullet proof. If anyone manages to kill them then there are serious problems somewhere.

Moulting is a good sign they are normal.
