Hi all.
I'm still very new to this but I'm reading alot on here and picking up things slowly.
For years I've loved the idea of having a very well maintained heavily planted tank and at the start of December I took the plunge and started my first tank.
Luckily Aquarium Gardens is pretty close to me so I've been lucky enough to have a great shop to help advise me with getting started.

I'm currently battling some diatoms but doing big water changes every 3 days and giving things a good clean in the process so hopefully this will pass in time.
I currently dont have any fish but hoping I can find out if it's safe to do so once the diatoms have settled down and I'm not messing with the tank a 3 times a week.

I'll try and keep things posted on how things are coming along as I'm sure there are a few things I'm doing wrong and hopefully learn so more but over all I love it so far.
Thanks for reading and please let me know what you think as I would love some feed back.

A bit of a update. Plant growth seems to be good but I still get a build up of brown and green algae on the hard scape which seems to take about 3 hours to carry out my weekly maintenance due to scrubbing as much off as I can and doing 70% water changes. I'm not to sure if its every possible to get to a stage where the hard scape stays pretty algae free or if I'm expecting a bit to much.
I was dosing 10ml of TNC complete daily so thought maybe I was having to much nutrients so tried dosing as to TNC recommended measurements at 3ml daily but that doesn't seem to help and now my cryptocoryne have holes the there leaves so not sure where to go with that atm.
I added a eheim 350 skimmer to help circulation which seems to be doing a good job and getting a bit better CO2 circulation.

Added 20 embra tetra and some Amano shrimp two weeks ago and one of my red cherry shrimp seems to have given birth this week and I have tiny baby shrimp now which is amazing.
Any feed back would be highly appreciated

Looks like the older leaves dying off and there appears to be plenty of fresh new growth coming up from the base. Suggest simply removing the older growth.

Could it be that simple. At the start of the week I dropped the daily dosing to try and address the algae build up I've been getting so I assumed it was due to that and was planning to up it to between the previous amount and the amount I've been doing this week.

The tank is still relatively new and so i suspect the plant could be replacing its leaves with some more readily adapted to your conditions. Did you get an initial crypt melt? This may now be happening!

I don't think I did, maybe a couple of leaves but not much if it did.
