Hi all, I’m a newbie to the hobby. I’ve recently got a fluval flex 57l tank. I have the tropica soil powder, dragon stone and some red moor wood. I also have the co2 nano kit from co2 warehouse. My plants are arriving tomorrow so I’ll be getting them planted then.
I’ve done lots of research recently regarding new tanks, quite a lot of different opinions on best way of “cycling” tank. Because I’m going to heavy plant from the off, from what I’ve read is doing 50% water changes daily for first week then every other day for second week then weekly 50%.
I did buy the dr tims pure ammonia but further reading the above way is more beneficial?!
I also have the tropica premium fertiliser (brown bottle) do I add this daily straight away, if so do I add it after the daily water change?
sorry if this has been done to death, just as first tank want to get it right from the off... or give myself the best chance anyway 👌..
Cheers any input would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your new tank!

You appear to be off mostly on the right track, which is great, just dispense with the Dr Tim's ammonia, you won't need it. Your Tropica soil powder will put out far more ammonia than you need all on its own.

Your water change schedule looks good - I would just maybe increase that to as close to 100% as you can get in the first couple of days to clear out that first rush of ammonia from the soil, then carry on as you have planned. Don't forget to treat your water with a dechlorinator (e.g. Seachem Prime) if you are using tap water.

On the ferts, you need the Tropica Specialised (Green one), rather than the Premium. Without confusing you with too much detail, the Premium contains no phosphate or nitrate which will be required by your plants, where the Specialised includes it. Dose after you change the water as you suggest. TNC Complete is a better value, and well regarded alternative to the fairly expensive Tropica ferts.

Finally don't forget to start up a journal, in the journals section of the forum: Journals

Hi all,
Welcome to UKAPS. Good advice from @Wookii.

Yes, if you plant the tank you don't need to add any ammonia, but water changes are still good. We have a <"recent thread, with a contribution from Dr (Tim) Hovanec">.

What plants have you ordered?

cheers Darrel
