Hi All,
OK I have my 150l tank, I have my gravel, heater & filter system the only thing I lack is knowledge! Any guidance would be appreciared. I am looking to establish some plants before I introduce anything living. Yes, I have read many intersting articles & have taken note. I am not in any rush to add fish as I would like to get my aquarium looking good first, so any advice on "starter" plants would be appreciated. Part carpet, foreground & backgrount plants, I really don't want to go the Ebay route, or am I asking for too much? I am currently running a fishless cycle. Great Site & many thanks in advance! :D

Here's a list of what you may need based on your wish to grow carpeting plants.

Lighting 70 to 80watts of T5 lighting
CO2 there are lots of different methods but i'd suggest you build yourself a system, it's cheaper it's really easy.
2kg fire extinguisher - viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1553
regulator and solanoid - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CO2-Regulator-Ele ... dZViewItem
CO2 tube http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Rhinox-Co2-Tubing ... m153.l1262

one way check valve & bubble counter - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gamba-XII-Japanes ... m153.l1262
drop checker - http://www.thegreenmachineaquatics.com/ ... dID=246393

substrate fertaliser
Tropica aquacare substrate since you already have gravel (it's a base layer and then capped with your gravel)

Tropica Plant Nutrition Plus & Easylife Carbo http://www.thegreenmachineaquatics.com/ ... dID=224628

Sorry for the late reply, I really do appreciate your input! Sadly I only have T8's maybe 70w. I do appreciate that I am trying to achieve the impossible, but he-ho, please give me some help in my maybe impossible task! Special thanks to Dan,who's advice I have taken & have already put into practice regarding the substrate. The detail of your response has left me in breathless! My tank is a AR850 150l . I ony have l arge bogwood x 1 & many natural small rocks.
Kind Regards to all, Nick :)

Have you seen George's video on the PFK website? This shows him setting up a planted tank in some detail any may help you. I'll try to find the link if you can't see it.

70 watts over 40 US gallons may be ok :)
If you can supply the tank with all the other equipment mentioned ie. CO2 and ferts then you may well succeed in growing glosso. I havn't tried it below 2wpg so can't really comment but i'm quite sure you'll be ok. It may take some trial and error and a couple of donations of old glosso but i'm sure you'll be ok ;)
