Springwatch BBC2 was interesting dicussing Oak Trees and how some over 1000 years old and the incrdible diversity of flora and fauna what relies on them. Some couldnt survive on any other tree. living trees that were alive at the time of Robin Hood and over a thousand years old and looking majestic in2021 Worth a look if you can

Incredible isn't it. The saproxylic complex. Oak trees are second to none with the life they support. For instance, nearly a quarter of British lichen flora occurs on oak bark (both species). That's 326 recorded species. For comparison, ash is next with 265 species.

And can you imagine that men destroyed over 80% of the European primal forests? 😭

Take for example the country called Holland, this name derives from an old germanic word "Holtland" which means Woodland. A vast area of bogs and woods. In German, it still is Holz ending with a TZ if spoken. And in the last few centuries, there is hardly a forest to find in Holland only concrete and dikes and many Dutch people don't know it and think the name obviously means the land is lower than the sea and derived from Hollowland.
