I believe that Photosynthesis evolved in the dark first in chemosynthetic life that evolved to take advantage of the black body radiation surrounding deep water volcanic vents and also from the light emitted by sonoluminesence, I also don’t discount that light from Cherenkov radiation could also be factored into this.
It’s also very apparent how massively important Iron became to photosynthetic life in being able to moderate all the toxic oxygen. The fact that all the available Iron in the oceans oxidised in huge bursts visible today in rock strata pretty much guaranteed that Cyanobacteria would reign supreme because it’s so effective at scavenging Iron!
