Hi, is the garden sulphate of potash the same as potassium sulphate?
I have purchased 3kg of the stuff thinking its the same thing. Hovewer it smells really nasty ;) has smaller grain and is brown greyish color. The label says sulphate of potash which consist of potassium oxide K2O with 41,5% K
Help plz :D
Regards...

Hi all,
Yes it is the same compound, it is just a "horticultural grade" with some impurities in it. The slightly strange way of expressing the phosphorus content is that P is traditionally expressed as the %oxide rather than as the percentage of the element. Potassium oxide is about 83% potassium by weight. The comma is just because it is used in Europe rather than a full-stop so it is 41.3% K2O which is 0.83 x 41.3 = 34.3% K.

cheers Darrel

Thanks a lot Darrel. Was expecting for a reply from you
