Preserving Bio media/bacteria

Hi, just wondering people's thoughts on preserving their bio media. Looking to change my scape soon.
It it as easy as just putting in another tank with livestock for keeping.
Or can it just be left in a bucket of water...
I thought maybe it would need livestock waste product/ammonia to keep it going

Hi,
If it's still in your filter I personally would install it on your other tank if it's for any length of time. It would be OK in a bucket with tank water for a few days as long as the water is circulating through it.

I did the same recently, rescaped a new tank using Tropica Aqualsoil from old tank. Did the rescape in a couple of hours so ran the filter in a little nano-cube with the livestock. Everything worked out fine except a bit of an ammonia spike since I capped the old substrate with a bit of newer stuff. Daily water changes for the first week took care of it. Now back to once a week WC like before. Filter seems to be working fine as before. Good luck........

<"It doesn't">, or least not in the way that <"cycling"> was thought to happen.
