Hi guys,

I rescaped my nano tank on Saturday so the tank has only been up 3 days. Today on returning home from work I've found all my Pogostemon helferi have melted and some of my buces and Lindernia Rotundifolia covered in what only I can describe as a white hair Algae (looks quite like BBA but it's white)

Tank specs
40l
Lighting: Aqual Leddy 2 Smart plant (on 8hrs per day)
Filtration: Tetra EX600+ on about 80% flow. 1 compartment 3 layer of foam, 2 layers Matrix+ purigen.
Ferts: Dosed the tank with 2 pumps of Tropica specialised on Sunday morning. Also have been dosing 1ml EasyCarbo since Sunday.
No injected Co2

I feel like the way the Lindernia is looking that's also about to melt and the Rotala sp Colorata isn't looking good either. This is the first time I've used EasyCarbo and experienced such rapid melting so to me this is the cause, however the weird white hair I've never come across.

I'm about to do a water change but does anyone have any suggestions? Should I drop the easycarbo for a week to allow the plants to settle in?

Cheers
Ash

Carry on with water changes every day for a week and then every other day. Plant heavily with "easy" stem plants. I have had melt like that in new set up that hasn't cycled. Someone on here said very rich substrate can cause melt on new transitioned plants in a uncycled tank. ? Your substrate doesn't look that though.

Should I continue to dosing the Easy Carbo for now? The entire back of the tank is planted with stem plant cultures in tropica soil powder, the rotala tbh already looked in bad shape when it arrived and the pogostemon erectus is also looking like it's going to melt 😬.

The tanks only 3 days old and water changes are important and it good that you have stems from day one. Easy carbo puts the tank on the high tech range .Myself l wouldn't use it . The tank needs to mature . Seems like you had some plants in poor condition at set up which could contribute to issues. Floating plants will help

Thank you, I'll continue the daily water changes and drop the Easy Carbo for now until the tank has matured more. I did have some Phyllanthus Fluitans from setup but the current from the spray bar was way too strong for these so they ended just being blown all around the tank. I did try adjust the spray bar positioning and "fenced" them off using some airline but didn't work so well. They also started falling apart Monday evening so I removed them. Are there any floating plant species that can withstand a stronger flow?

Hi all,
Are there any floating plant species that can withstand a stronger flow?
I've never had much joy with Phyllanthus fluitans either, it has <"always lost out and eventually sunk"> .

Nile Cabbage / Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) is pretty buoyant. Other options are Floating Fern (<"Salvinia auriculata group">) and Amazon Frogbit (Limnobium laevigatum), but Pistia is definitely the most floaty floater.

cheers Darrel
