Hi, thinking about getting some Seachem Excel, to replace my DIY CO2 - and I understand it also kills algae. If so, how will this affect the algae eaters I have in the tank?

It only affects certain algae, black brush for instance. And it doesn't immediately wipe it out. It has an impact, but it's not a comprehensive algaecide. Algae eaters - with the exception of the SAE - don't eat black brush algae anyway. I wouldn't be too worried about your algae eater starving as a result of dosing excel. A lot of algae eaters also graze on biofilms that bacteria form.

Ok that's great. I don't have that much algae in the tank anyway - but was worried about the algae eaters going without the micro amounts that the eye can't see.

So all good. I will get some ordered. Thanks.

This is maybe a REALLY stupid question, but will Excel have any strange effects on algae wafers?
As someone once told me, the stupid questions are the ones you never ask.

I've used EasyCarbo for a while to limit algae growth and my Ottos are fat and happy.
