Hey, i just rang Amwell aquatics in soham and was informed that they have never even heard of ADA and do not stock Aquasoil. Is ADA not as common in shops as i thought it was?

The only ADA outlet/stockists in the UK are TGM and Aqua Essentials as far as I know. Though a big brand, the UK is quite far behind most of the rest of the world when it comes to aquascaping supplies :(

TGM and AE are the shining beacons in the dark aquascapeless night :)

Ahh i see well its a good thing TGM and aqua essentials are around then!

Even some of the better known shops in Portugal stock ADA Aquasoil so go figure ;) seems like in the UK the only shop you can walk in to and buy it is TGM!
Thats why this forum was created to try and promote the hobbie and make everyone aware of the choices there are, so maybe some day you walk into a LFS and then stock ADA too ;) and hopefully by then you won't have to break the bank to buy their stuff, but one can dream about the latter lol

I imagine 90%+ of LFS will not have heard of ADA, just as they will say nitrates and phosphates cause algae in planted tanks and heater cables improve plant growth...

It's a slow process but with the help of UKAPS, our sponsors and the like, it's going the right way.

10 years ago virtually no one used pressurized CO2 systems in the UK... ;)

ive just introduced the manager from MA @ east bridgford to ADA and planted tanks in general. he came around to look at the henge and was quite stunned.

i spoke to my other local shop and they had never heard of it either. They do stock eco complete and jbl substrates though

my lfs would love to stock ADA products, but as to the minimum order via the sole distributer, this seems unlikely...

Aquatic Habitat in Gloucestershire stock quite alot of planted tank stuff, including pressurised CO2 kits, substrates and tropica plants. I'm sure they've heard of ADA (but I've never asked them!). They don't stock any of it though.

The problem with the average LFS though is that most of the people who go in there aren't at the 'serious' end of the hobby. So if they did stock ADA substrates, it would still be sitting on the shelf under a layer of dust 2 years later.

^That's very true. I used to work in a fairly big LFS and I don't recall ever selling any plant substrate. The shop stocked a couple of brands (but not ADA), there was just never any interest.

Hi Steve,

We are the sole distributor for ADA products in the UK and our minimum order for retailers is fair. It is now considerably cheaper to place an order with us than it was when orders had to be placed from abroad. So what we are doing is bringing ADA one step further in to the UK market. As a result of this we are pleased to announce that another specialist and stockist of ADA will soon be opening for business in Edinburgh.

Our initial information indicates that the new shop will feature some real planted displays and we are personally very happy supplying people who are passionate enough to "walk the walk" as well as "talk the talk".

Of course it goes without saying that our list of retailers will grow as time goes by and the availability of ADA products will increase when businesses really do start to realise both customer demand and the exceptional quality of the brand.

We know that not everyone lives within economical travelling distance of us- its always best to see the products in the flesh before buying, but as the industry changes and the brand grows the goods will become more readily available on a local basis.

Good things come to those who wait! :D

Hi TMG, that sounds great :D Il let my lfs know. And tell them to give you a call.
