:) And small too?? That's going to be a challange.. As Darrel says goes for most flowering plants, the need of a lot of light especialy the tropicals. And recieving a lot of light also means it needs ample fertilization to accomodate this. These are the pit falls in smaller closed indoor invironments like an aquarium. One plant i know of that flowers realy easily and can be kept floating without putting it in the substrate is Ranunculus aquatilis
it grows in different grow forms, little clover leaf like floater. Tho i never kept it in an indoor aquarium.

Water hyacinth - not very small though

This plant has been banned in the eu or was at least on the banned list but can't remember when all stock had to be sold by.

And it's not small and darn difficult, even outdoor in the pond it aint easy to get it to flower or nurish it properly. I always wondered if and how the nurseries do it if they are so difficult.. Never realy thought of the most obvious.. It is imported from the tropics in adult size and not grown at the nursery.. Same as the Salvinia i lately discovered by watching a dennerle video. They also nurse small salvinia for the trade, but also have to very big adult version in stock. And thsi one is directly imported from the tropics in that adult size. Even in the professional nursery in the temporate regions they can not replicate the proper conditions to grow it t full size.

I thought that but I checked and it still seems to be available: https://www.marshalls-seeds.co.uk/w...a-crassipes-5x-young-pond-plants-pid6169.html

I think temperature is part of the trigger for flowers, so I'd presume indoors/in the greenhouse would help with flowering.

How about a raft? That could give you a broader range of potential plants.

What was the name of that floating fern. The one where if you touch it, the leaves close.

I had a quick look and it was listed as being banned from August 2016, with a one year period to clear stock. So it shouldn't be available and is technically illegal. However I've seen a few species that made the list that were still available after many years. I know it's unlikely to overwinter here even with specialist care and it's why a think an eu broad ban is a little harsh, as it's a nice plant.

creeping jenny, will happily live as a floating plant and has lovely yellow flowers. You can anchor it using a suction cup.

I'm not sure but i think you're refering to the Aeschynomene Fluitans. :) indeed in some areas commonly called Giant Sensitive fern.

That's also not realy the easiest plant to grow, never mind making it flower.. I failed to grow it long term..

Or the Neptunia oleracea. :) is a simular looking plant (water Minosa) different flower. I heve no experience with this one. But reading it thrives best at rather high temp and high humid tropical invironments.
