I was under the impression that with sand, gravel and stones etc that the small stuff always went to the bottom leaving the bigger stuff on top?
Why is it then that all the small pebbles I’ve put in one of my tanks have all sunk into the silver sand?! 😕

Hi all,

They do, if you disturb the substrate at all.

It is via <"granular convection">.

Yes, unfortunately they will get slowly mixed in(especially if you have bottom feeders). You can use a coral feeder to carefully blow the sand off or you may have to use tweezers or a strainer and redo them from time to time.

I feel your pain...
