Some of the regular members may have noticed I've not been active on UKAPS over the last week or so.

I've been mountaineering in Snowdonia, Wales, with a group of work mates training for a big expedition to the French Alps this coming September.

It was actually really quite tough; the hardest I've physically worked in my life (and I keep fit). We climbed 10 peaks in 6 days, including staying overnight in tents and cooking our own food, all of which we had to carry ourselves. The views more than made up for the aching muscles though!

All taken with my little compact camera; Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS3. It costs less than £100.

I love Snowdon, favourite part of the country. I was about to ask if you bought any of the great rock back but seeing you were walking that'd be serious dedication!

Thanks, guys.

Thankfully the weather was good. It would have been a very different story if it had rained a lot!

Here's a short video clip of some of the lads jumping into a very cold lake, followed by a helicopter fly-by. And to think this is a duty so we don't use any holiday entitlement. I should be in recruitment!

I'm sold... Where do I sign!
Where in Snowdonia were you?

I had a suspicion it was Betws-y-Coed, there's always flyovers there, harriers on low fly duty and that. The best area, swallow falls is beautiful. The whole area is tbh. You're not missing anything touristy, there's the railway museum and that's it as I remember it.

Ahh mate, great part of the world, and on my door step, brilliant.

Im often at Betws-y-coed either walking or heading there on the motorbike. Its a great refueling point for drink and petrol.

Ogwyn valley is cool isnt it George. Ive done all those peaks in high snow, its just like the Alps, ive been there too.

Where in the Alps are you going? Ive been to Chamonix, up the Egwid de midi and smelt the air of Mont Blonc.

I need to get back over to the tops again, ive missed them.

its so wierd when you are above the hawks (planes) that are flying around below you!
as they wizz through the valleys for the training its insane to be so close as you are at their height.

many fond memories of sitting on top of mountains watching hawks and other things. superb.

not a bad little camera either!

All nice shots George,my own favourite is the second shot of the grey ponies, purely for the simple composition, less is more IMO,
Cheers John.

Great photos George, Castell y Gwynt is such a wild structure almost doesn't look natural, also that lake by Tryfan is totally a map of Australia! T
