So I friend of mine gave me this piece of wood. I have no clue what type of wood it is but I'm trying to figure out if I can use it for my new aquascape but so far I can't seem to get anything.

The aquarium in the picture measures 120cm x 50cm x 60cm and will be used for this new aquascape.

I would like to have it heavily planted and with some sandy areas on the front.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated, thanks.

Wood looks very nice! If it is all dried out and isnt crumbly I would just go for it personally. I think it would look great if you build it up a bit with stones, that gives you more height on it, and then taper the stones out into the sandy areas. Nice impactful piece that still leaves a lot of room for planting.

Thanks for that. I can already picture it and it looks quite good.

Stones I was looking at either Seiryu or Frodo stones, something on the greyish side, to contrast the green of the plants and the sand.
