Could somebody / bodies please explain the difference between T5 and T8 lighting and the benefits / loses between the two different types of lighting. Wondering weather to change my hood.

Current lighting:2 x Flora glow 30 watt 36” in length & 1 x Aqua glow 25 watt 30” in length. Total wattage 85watt on a 217 litre aquarium (Aqua one AR980).

Regards

Paul.

T5s are thinner (5/8ths of an inch) and more efficient so you get more light per Watt.

T8s are thicker (8/8ths of an inch) and less efficient.

Your lighting is about 1.7 WPG and with T8s this is pretty low light. However before upgrading your lights get your CO2 and ferts sorted. Once they're in order then you can upgrade the lights and do it with success rather than problems.
