Tank maintenance newb question

Hi

wasn’t sure where to ask this.

for regular water changes and tank cleaning I try to do this after the lights and co2 are timed off at the end of the day. But for those times where I‘m cleaning the pipe works and filter I have no option but to do this in the early stages of the lights and cos2 being active, so these end up being switched off during maintenance.

once Maintenance is finished if I just switch back to auto for lights and co2, the co2 is obviously not going to be at the right level with the normal light routine, so should I keep the lights off for a few hours until the checker shows green?

my tank is 2 weeks old, so struggling with a bit of algae anyway.

cheers

Hi,

You are doing water changes, cleaning pipes and getting algae, yet your tank is only two weeks old ??

Something sounds amiss there, can you fill in a bit more detail .. eg, tank size, light type and hours, how much water are you changing and how often, plants and fertilizers used, any fish in the tank , what kind of algea and where, pictures will help ?

As for when to do maintenance, at our convenience, typically under15- 30 mins a week, so little disturbance, pipe cleaning form the canister filter, very infrequently.

As dino said
my tank is 2 weeks old, so struggling with a bit of algae anyway.

We expect some algae in the first few weeks as the tank/filters cycle, increasing the WC frequency/amount helps reduce the potential outbreaks of algae

i Understand algae is expected in new set up, but seeing damage to leafs for instance at the back limnophila and on the crips. Anything I need to worry about, or is there an issue with the details below? Cheers

1. Size of tank plus age/duration of the set - up. EA freshwater 900. 2 weeks today since setup
2. Filtration. OASE 650t
3. Lighting and duration. Twinstar 900s comes on at 12 goes off at 5 with 30mins each end dimming.
4. Substrate. Tropica soil and powder at back. Sand at front.
5. Co2 dosing or Non-dosing. Co2 in-line comes on at 9 goes off at 5
6. Fertilizers used + Ratios. Tnc Complete 5ml daily. Tic carbon 4ml daily
7. Water change regime. first week 50% daily, 2nd week 50% every other day. Moving to 50% every 3 days next week.
