This is java moss right?

It's growing on a piece of wood alongside fissidens. Must be a remnant of the days when I used to keep it. Just thought I'd double check because I don't remember it growing so stringy. Also is this the same? Pulled it out floating loose:

Cant really tell to be honest mate i know mine is thiner and more stringier than yours an its also a darker green.

Hi all,
It looks like Java Moss (Taxiphyllum barbieri). Have a look here: <http://www.aquamoss.net/Java-Moss/Java-Moss.htm>.

A useful difference between Taxiphyllum and Vesicularia spp. is that the Vesicularia spp., like Xmas moss, feel much stiffer to the touch.

Yeah, I reckon it's java. Thanks all. Will be giving this little bit of wood to my newbie mate. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't giving him anything unusual
