Is there a possibility that by adding too much CO2 might kill off beneficial bacteria? When I say too much CO2 I mean within logical values that someone can pump into the aquarium e.g. 40 or 50 ppm!
When I set my tank up, after a month or two brown algae appeared, cured by turning my lights down by twisting the reflectors to block the light. Remainder was scoffed by Ottos. After a week or two lights back up to full brightness, no sign of brown algae.
Some people manage to run their tanks at way over 40ppm CO2 no plant, fish or bacteria issues.
