Just wondering what the best way to shorten this plant back.
At present the length is around 50cm +.
Not sure there is a way other than cutting the long leaves at the base. Trimming the leaves would cause the usual problems.
Yeh best take off the whole leaf.
Prune the leaves back using sharp scissors at the base. New growth will be rapid.
Balasae is a very tall plant...it is impossible to keep short and healthy...look at pics of it growing in the wild...snipping off older leaves will expose the red stems of the new growth but you'll find it very difficult to keep it below 12". Ours reach anything up to two feet long!!!
Ok, thanks guys.
funny that was just about 2 ask same question mine is well in excess of 3 foot long and blocking out the light
I used to just cut them in half!
This was the technique with Vals but I think now we know that damaged leaves cause ammonia leeching and therefore algae we have changed our ways. lol
2ft is defo a baby. The longest of mine are about 3½-4ft and go up the side then half way along the top then down a bit again. lol
I tend to pull these ones out as they get too long and leave the smaller ones in.
