I use zip ties, can't fault it. if you're using really big wood treated screws could be used.

I used cable/zip ties for the TGM demo and other 'scapes. Work a treat and so simple to use.

Garden ties are fine too. The qty. of metal is negligible, so I wouldn't anticipate any issues. Iron is good for plants anyway!! lol

I used garden tie and it snaps after a while which is annoying. Zip teas really are your best bet.

AE sell what is basically garden twist-tie stuff for plants, I guess it must be safe (?) and would work fine for wood too.
