Twisted vallis

Normal straight vallis grows like a weed in my tank but i never have any luck growing the twisted variety....any suggestions ?

100 gallon tank, 4 x 48" T8 tubes, playpit sand/ericaceous compost substrate, no CO2 (yet). Water probably around 7.5pH and 78 deg F.

I usually buy it in clumps with that foam stuff around the roots and a lead strip holding them in place but i always remove this prior to planting.

Any help would be welcome.

Hi Andy,
It would be really useful if you could tell us what the failure mode(s) of the twisted vallis was/were in the past.
