Using a desklamp on a Nano setup

Hi all,

On my mums recent trip to ikea I told her to look out for any vases that could double up as a nice Nano aquarium. The vase she got me is great! Perfect for the job! However I'm not sure how to light such a thing. I wondered If I could use a standard desk lamp and still achieve reasonable plant growth. Has anyone had success using a desk lamp on their nano?
Any advice is much appreciated.

You can get pretty good 11w compact fluorescent lamps for £10 - £20 which will work fine. A lot of american nanos on APC use this kind of lighting setup. Try to get one with a higher kelvin rating around 65000K
