Using sand for the first time.

Hi guys after about 8 years running I have decided to reboot my 30litre cube. I have always wanted to have a blackwater tank dedicated to pygmy corys.

So I bought a bag of sand which is not coarse at all must me 1 mm in diameter.

I wanted to put 1 cm of soil and cover it with sand. My concern now is that this sand might get compacted. I do plan on planting plants with roots and I will also keep malaysian trumpet snails.

In case I add about 3 cm of sand do you think it will be too deep and possibly cause anaerobic pockets?

I've never had any problems.
Either own it's own,or used as a cap.
