My partner is an aquascaping enthusiast and we now have several aquariums around our home. He's now considering turning his passion into a profession and opening a store selling high quality aqua scaping tools, tanks, hard scaping and plants. My question is, before we consider this seriously, are there many members of the aquascaping community in the West Midlands of the UK? And if so, so you feel there's a need for a store selling niche goods?
Thank you and hoping everyone is staying safe.

Somewhere selling quality plants would be great.
I live up nearer Staffordshire and there are some reasonable shops around here but none I would consider great and getting plants tends to be hit and miss. There are a couple of places that I would head to for hardscape but I wouldn't get plants or livestock there. I have previously visited various shops down south (Shirley Aquatics, Maidenhead in Coleshill / Solihull) and would quite happily travel a distance to get there.

I would love a place to get inspiration and decent plants but I do worry about the overheads. People don't tend to buy plants all the time and the reason many LFS have hit and miss plants is because they don't have the turnover of stock and plants are there far longer than is good for them, if you get there shortly after a new delivery the plants are quite good but a few weeks later and they are terrible. I would have thought this is only viable with an online presence and a showroom which is a destination (Aquarium Gardens seem to have this nailed but that really is a trek from here...)

Would be good. I’m in North Oxfordshire and there’s nowhere decent for inspiration and good plants, except the hit and miss MA.

There are very few specialist aquascaping shops around, so you would probably get people coming from further afield, certainly the East Midlands, probably further north, and Wales too. Lots of people would be happy to drive for two hours to get to you. The important thing is to make them feel it was worth the trip, so they will come again. :)
