Just curious what shrimps everyone is keeping in the UK besides Cherries and Crystals. Post here with your experiences and pics if you can :)

Yes, would be interesting to know. I haven't really encountered anyone keeping other shrimps than Amano, Caridina variants such as Bee, Tangerine and Crystal and variants of Neocaridina such as Cherry shrimps.

Cheers,
Michael

Watching with interest. Currently looking at Caridina cf. babaulti, but not yet taken the plunge as unsure if they'll adapt to 2 ~ 3 dgh like amano and tangerine tigers can.

I am not in the UK, but I used to have a 20 strong army of Babaulti shrimps. I only have 1 left. I put the last one in my amano shrimp tank for a peaceful end of life. They are very shy. Even when I had the 20 of them I barely ever saw them. They were always hiding.

I keep a strain from wild caught Caradina Holthuisi, I got these from Chris Lukhaup (that's what he said they were but I am not sure) when we visited Vivarium a decade ago! They still going strong, the odd ones develop some colour but mostly they look like mini Amanos! They breed well but will fight other shrimp like crazy for food.

What they look like!

Hi all,
So you have the same experience. They are shy and hide.
Difficult to say for me, but yes, I virtually never saw them and even when they were hiding in plain sight? I didn't always realise until they moved.

Everything "hides" in my tanks, or more to the point the <"tanks are stuffed full with plants"> etc and <"don't really have any open spaces"> so any livestock views are normally just glimpses.

This is @Tim Harrison 's tank, but it is the look I aim for. He is just a lot better at it than I am.

I keep a trio of Bamboo Shrimp. They're not often photogenic but I caught a good glimpse of one recently. (Also attached some images of my Amano Shrimp in the same tank. I have some neocardina sold as yellow although they look orange to me)

I have considered keeping Gabon/Vampire shrimp but never had a tank where it felt appropriate.

I also keep a trio of bamboo shrimp, in my experience a dedicated circulator is essential to their prosperity and longevity.

Cool. Morphologically they look like Crystals.

Yeah very similar they are Caradina after all, with some selective breeding I am sure could get some nice colours, I added the best ones to the Aquascape 900, and they had some nice colours in there. But the Barbs took a taste to them and wiped them out!

Here one of them:
