I have a fluval flex 9 gallon that’s been set up for 9 months. What would be a better nano fish for this tank? It has decent flow but I slow it down by turning the outlets towards the glass and back of the tank. I was torn between choosing celestial pearl danios or chili rasboras. Which one is less timid and more likely to show off its colors without hiding as much. Also how many could I get of each? Thank you for any help!

Male celestial pearl danios can be quite territorial with each other so I’d be more inclined to go with the chilli rasboras.

cheers

I've not kept them but have read that chili rasboras show their best colours when in soft acidic water. It might be worth factoring into your decision depending on your water chemistry.

Hi, nice setup, I suggest you get pygmy cories. I have a 30 litre cube , about asbig as the Flex and have a group of 5 along with cherry shrimp. You could get around 8 of them.

I have 5 CPDs in my 26L. I ordered 4 females and one male knowing males can fight. I actually got 4 males and one female! The first day the males circled each other obsessively, but since then they tolerate each other well. The smallest male does keep away from the others though. The poor female gets a lot of attention, the males do a dance where an interested male will swim alongside and slightly lower and vibrate. The female can hide in the grass when the males get too much.

In my limited experience, CPDs do not seem to be timid at all.

I have a 27L cube and I was also going to get some livestock soon as it's over 6 weeks old now. Just like you I have narrowed it down to CPDs, chili but also dwarf rasboras, so maybe have a look at these too if you like. My idea is to get a school of 10 but I have read of people on here having 15+ in similar sized tanks.

For what I have read, CPDs could grow a tiny smidge bigger than the other two (around 2.5cm) if that's helpful.
